Travel advisories for the week

SYRACUSE -- It's the peak of summer and that means it is the peak of construction season in central New York.  Here's the list of projects underway this week and related lane closings and detours from the New York State Department of Transportation. 

Before hitting the road, you may also want to check out real time road conditions by looking at traffic cameras along your route. 

Monday, August 2, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.:
I-690 Westbound: Left and center lanes over Leavenworth Avenue, closed for bridge joint repairs.

Monday, August 2 until Friday, August 6, 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.:
I-690 Eastbound and Westbound: Left lane closed between Exit 4 (John Glenn Blvd) and Exit 6 (NY 695) for guide rail repair.

Tuesday, August 3, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.:
I-690 Westbound: Left lane closed over the Bear Street exit ramp for bridge repairs.

Wednesday, August 4, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.:
Ramp from NY 695 Northbound to I-690 Eastbound: Right lane closed for bridge maintenance.

Thursday, August 5, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:30p.m.:
Ramp from NY 695 Northbound to I-690 Eastbound: Left lane closed for bridge maintenance.

Friday, August 6, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.:
NY 695 Northbound: Left two lanes closed over Milton Avenue for bridge repairs.

Friday, August 6, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.:
Ramp to I-690 Eastbound at State Fair Blvd (Exit 6): Closed to all traffic.
Detour for entrance ramp: Continue eastbound on State Fair Blvd directly into I-690.


Continuous Projects - Onondaga County

*Bridge Replacement Operations*
(24/7) Continuous, now through approximately September 17

I-81 Northbound and Southbound: Left lane and right shoulder closed in both directions, approaching and passing under the Bartell Road Bridge, Brewerton. Access to and from Exit 31
(Bartell Road/ Brewerton) will be maintained.
Additional lane and ramp closures are possible on a daily basis as needed.

*Intersection Improvement Project*
9 a.m. Monday, July 26, (24/7) Continuous through 4 p.m. Friday, August 6

I-81 Southbound: Exit 20 (Franklin/ West Street) off-ramp will be closed to all traffic.
I-81 South Ramp Detour: Proceed south on I-81south to Exit 19 (Salina/Clinton Street).
Franklin Street Traffic; Proceed straight on Clinton Street to Herald Place, right on Herald Place to Franklin Street.
West Street Traffic; Proceed straight on Clinton Street to West Genesee Street, right on West Genesee Street to West Street.

*Sign Structure Rehabilitation Operations *
(24/7) Continuous, now through Wednesday, August 25

I-690 Eastbound:  Lane width restrictions on Exit 14 (Teall Avenue) deceleration lane and off- ramp.

I-690 Westbound: Right lane closed, from Exit 14 (Teall Avenue) to the Lodi Street overpass.


*Bridge Repair Operations*
(24/7) Continuous, now through approximately August 25

I-81 Southbound: Reduced to two lanes of travel with narrow shoulders, approaching and crossing over the bridge over Rte 11 and South Bay Road (“Northern Lights Bridge”) in Mattydale.

*Bridge Replacement Operations*
(24/7) Continuous, now through approximately August 31

Butternut Street (Bridge) over I-81: Closed to all traffic in both directions of travel.
Butternut Street (Bridge) Detour: For downtown traffic traveling towards northbound I-81: north on N. Franklin Street; east (right turn) on Herald Place; then north (left turn) on N. Salina Street.  Vehicles can then enter the highway from the N. Pearl Street entrance.
For local traffic traveling between the north and west sides of Syracuse, the same detour will be used: N. State Street, N. Salina Street, Herald Place and N. Franklin Street.

*Bridge Replacement Operations*
(24/7) Continuous, now through approximately September 30

Erie Blvd Bridge over West Street: Closed to all traffic in both directions of travel.
Erie Blvd  (westbound) Detour: West on Route 5 (West Genesee Street) to Geddes Street. Left on Geddes Street to Erie Blvd.
Erie Blvd  (eastbound) Detour: Left on Plum Street to Route 5 (West Genesee Street). Right on Route 5 (West Genesee Street) to Franklin Street.

West Street Northbound Off-Ramp to Erie Blvd (westbound): Closed to all traffic.
West Street Northbound Off-Ramp Detour: Proceed north on West Street to the Herald Place exit, proceed on Herald Place to Wallace Street to Route 5 (West Genesee Street), right on Route 5 (West Genesee Street) to Geddes Street, left on Geddes Street to Erie Blvd .

West Street Northbound Off-Ramp Detour: Proceed north on West Street to the Herald Place exit, proceed on Herald Place to Wallace Street to Route 5 (West Genesee Street), right on Route 5 (West Genesee Street) to Geddes Street, left on Geddes Street to Erie Blvd .

Continuous Projects- Cayuga County

*Bridge Replacement Operations*
(24/7) Continuous, now through approximately September 7

Route 90 Eastbound and Westbound: Closed to traffic, both directions of travel, between Route 34 and Route 34B in the Town of Genoa.
Route 90 Eastbound Detour: Proceed south on Route 34 to Route 34B in Lansing, proceed north on Route 34B to Route 90.
Route 90 Westbound Detour: Proceed south on Route 34B to Route 34 in Lansing, proceed north on Route 34 to Route 90.

*Bridge Replacement Project*
(24/7) Continuous, now through approximately October 16

Route 90 Eastbound and Westbound: Single line alternating direction of travel controlled by a temporary 3 color traffic signal on Route 90 Bridge over Paines Creek in the Village of Aurora. Pedestrian accommodations by a separate pedestrian structure at site.

Continuous Projects - Oswego County

*I-81 Bridge Repair Operations*
(24/7) Continuous, now through approximately November 30

I-81 Southbound Mainline: Right lane closed approaching and crossing over the bridge over the Barge Canal/Oneida Lake Outlet.
I-81 Northbound Mainline: Left lane closed approaching and crossing over the bridge over the Barge Canal/Oneida Lake Outlet.

*Bridge Replacement Operations*
 (24/7) Continuous, now through approximately November 30

Utica Street Eastbound and Westbound: Reduced width lanes with no shoulders, in both directions of travel on the bridge over the Oswego River in the City of Oswego.


These closures are subject to change due to adverse weather conditions or unforeseen logistical complications. Other lane, ramp or road closures not yet scheduled may occur which do not appear on this report.
