As the battle against the oil continues in the Gulf of Mexico, the environmental impact is growing.

However, experts hired by oil company BP say there are several misconceptions about the impact of the spill. They say it's not as easy as it seems to remove oil from the surface of the ocean. Click here to read what the consultants consider the top 10 misconceptions about the spill.

To get an in-depth look at the environmental impact of the spill, visit USA Today's interactive map. It includes satellite images, spill tracking graphs, charts on the wildlife impact, submitted photos, and reader accounts of how the oil is impacting their lives.

The state of Florida is focusing on more than just the environmental impact. The state's Department of Health and the Department of Environmental Protection provide information and notices on the health effects for humans.
