Solar power for PA racetrack & local grid
The Pocono Raceway is known for great NASCAR racing. The thrill of the race, the need for speed and precise passing draws thousands of fans to every event. Looking forward, those fans will have the benefits of clean solar power.
According to this CNN report, the racetrack will go solar this weekend. Their 25 acre solar power wind farm has nearly 40,000 solar panels and will eventually supply 3 to 4 million kilowatt hours per year. According the CEO of the Pocono Raceway, their $16 million investment is “the largest solar power project and the largest renewable energy project…in the world.” This project will also power up to one thousand homes nearby, as well.
Can you believe that solar power of this scale is this close to central New York? What do you think of this? Comment on this story at the bottom of this web page.
