SARANAC LAKE (AP) -- A group of birdwatchers spotted a rare visitor from Texas in the Adirondacks last weekend.
Former President George W. Bush came rolling past them on a mountain bike, wearing a spandex biking outfit. A little later, Bush and fellow riders turned around and rode past the birders again, saying good morning before they disappeared into the forest.
The Adirondack Enterprise in Saranac Lake reports that Bush and his wife Laura spent several days at Camp Topridge on Upper St. Regis Lake as guests of Harlan Crow, the Texas real estate mogul who owns the sprawling woodland compound. Crow told the paper that his family and the Bushes are longtime friends.
Crow said Bush is an avid mountain biker, and also enjoyed some canoeing during his visit.
