Local concert promoters aren't the only ones have trouble selling out shows. A recent issue of Rolling Stone magazine states ticket sales for the top 100 concert tours fell 12 percent for the first half of this year. It's the first time that's happened in 15 years.
Poor ticket sales lead to confusion over Thursday night's scheduled Bret Michaels concert at the Regional Market in Syracuse. Michaels and his band showed up, even though the promoter, Mike Banks, had postponed the concert. Band members refused to go on because Bank never paid the deposit. Banks says he didn't sell enough tickets to cover the cost.
Concert promotion giant Live Nation is getting hit hard by the slump. The company posted a second quarter loss because of the weak concert season. Several acts have had to cancel shows because sales have been so slow.
One editorial blames the concert tour industry, saying ticket prices should be lower so more people can afford to go.
