DEKALB (AP) -- Authorities say a 43-year-old man and his 44-year-old wife are dead in an apparent murder-suicide inside their northern New York home.

St. Lawrence County Sheriff Kevin Wells says it's believed Jeffrey Paquette  shot Denise Paquette Thursday morning with a .357-caliber handgun, then turned the gun on himself.

Authorities say the county's 911 dispatch center received a call from a man who said there was an emergency at a home in the town of DeKalb, near Canton.

When deputies arrived, they looked through a door window and saw two bodies on the living room floor. Wells says the gun, registered to Jeffrey Paquette, was still in his hand.

Wells says there were no indications the couple had domestic problems. The Paquettes had no children.
