WESTMORELAND, ONEIDA CO. -- What started as a domestic dispute ended in a murder-suicide. That's according to Oneida County Sheriff's deputies investigating the deaths of a couple in the Town of Westmoreland.
Sheriff's deputies say David Hoole, 41, shot his wife Lisa Guzzardo, 45, four times in the head before turning the gun on himself.
Investigators were called to the couples' home at 6375 Route 26 early Thursday morning to check on the pair. Guzzardo's supervisor at Target in New Hartford, where she worked, got worried when she hadn't shown up to work for three days.
When detectives got to the couple's home, they were unable to get inside the home because of a large dog. They contacted a Rome Animal Control Officer who secured the dogs. Deputies then went inside and found Guzzardo and Hoole lying dead on the kitchen floor. Both had been shot in the head.
Investigators say there was a history of domestic violence between the two. Autopsies were performed on the couple Thursday afternoon at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Utica, which showed Guzzardo died as a result of four gunshot wounds to the head. Hoole died from a single gunshot wound to the head.
Investigators have already recovered the 22 caliber handgun used in the crime. Authorities think they died sometime Wednesday morning.
