Also, the woman who called 911
SYRACUSE -- After this weekend's inmate death at Onondaga County's Justice Center, we'll show you where he was being held after his arrest. We'll also tell you what the woman who called 911 for help saw and heard, before and during the confrontation with Syracuse Police.
This, as state authorities will investigate the death of an inmate after a struggle Friday with deputies at the Onondaga County jail.
Sheriff Kevin Walsh says 31-year-old Raul Pinet of Syracuse had to be subdued and put in a special holding cell after Syracuse police brought him to the jail on charges of criminal trespass and resisting arrest.
Deputies who were watching Pinet in the holding room realized he hadn't move for four or five minutes after restraints were removed and he was left on the cell floor.
After efforts to resuscitate him, Pinet was taken to Upstate University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. An autopsy is planned.
Walsh said city police and his department will investigate and the state Commission of Correction will conduct its own probe.
This is the second death of an inmate at the County Justice Center in the past year. In November 2009, a woman died from a ruptured ectopic pregnancy while incarcerated at the jail.
