SYRACUSE -- The man accused of robbing the KeyBank in downtown Syracuse has been identified and is in police custody.

Syracuse Police tell CNY Central that 26-year-old Kalief Green is charged with first degree robbery, second degree assault, and resisting arrest. Police say Green walked into the KeyBank on South Warren Street Tuesday morning and handed a teller a note, then made off with an unspecified amount of cash.

Police say a taxicab driver picked up Green and took him to the Syracuse Regional Transportation Center near Carousel Center mall. That's where Green apparently bought a bus or train ticket. The cab driver then took the suspect to Carousel Center.

Police started canvassing the mall, showing store employees Green's picture. Store employees say they saw him buying clothes. Police later spotted Green at the mall and started chasing after him. They used a Taser on him and he was taken into custody.

Green was taken to a local hospital to be examined and have the Taser probes removed. Police say one city officer injured his ankle while chasing Green.

Police say Green is homeless.

Syracuse Police tell CNY Central that they are investigating a bank robbery.

According to police spokesman Sgt. Tom Connellan, the robbery took place around 9:00 this morning at the KeyBank located at 201 South Warren Street in Syracuse. Police say a black male with a goatee, white shirt and baseball hat passed a threatening note to a teller, and fled the bank on foot with cash.

Police have not said how much money was stolen, and say they do not routinely publicly report that information.

Connellan says there were no injuries.
