HAMILTON (AP) -- The Colgate University campus was locked down for about an hour Tuesday afternoon while an armed person in a car threatened suicide with a gun.

State police say the person arrived on campus in a car shortly after 2 p.m. Tuesday. The campus was locked down as troopers and Hamilton police officials negotiated with the despondent driver.

Things returned to normal around 3 p.m. when the person was safely removed from campus.

A Colgate spokesman said none of the campus community was really at risk, but entrances to the campus were blocked just as a precaution during the incident and people were asked to stay inside their buildings.
