Amber Stassi, 33, won global singing competition
BREWERTON -- When people normally talk about Friday the 13th, it's usually with a negative connotation or superstition. But for one local mother, this Friday the 13th was a day of celebration.
Amber Stassi, 33, is a mother of three and medic in Brewerton. About a month ago, she submitted her own rendition on "Silent Night" on YouTube as part of a global competition to duet with Susan Boyle on her upcoming album. Last night, she got the got the phone call from Boyle telling her she had won.
"There's really not words to describe the feeling that I've had throughout this whole thing," she said, "It's really still unbelievable, that's for sure."
"I never thought so many people would want to take part in this and I want to thank everyone," Boyle said on her website, "It was very hard to choose a winner as there are so many talented singers around the world. Amber really stood out for me, though. I enjoyed her audition clip very much - she has a lovely, very beautiful voice.”
And while Amber's voice is catching the public's attention today, it's not the first time she's tried to showcase her voice to the world. A few years ago, she tried out for American Idol in Chicago.
"Of course I didn't make it, but it was a great experience. And again, wonderful talent; just to be able to sing with other people with amazing voices (was a great experience)", she said.
For Amber, music has always been a huge part of her life, as her father was in a band. However, music took a backseat after after her father passed away in 2006.
"Just in the past year or two we've brought music back into our lives and we've seen how music can make us happy," she said.
At this point, Amber is pursuing her musical dream one day at a time and waiting to see what comes out of all this excitement. Her next stop will take her to London in a few weeks, where she'll meet up with Boyle in the recording studio.
