(AP) -- A new Siena poll shows Republican gubernatorial candidate Carl Paladino gaining on Rick Lazio heading into the GOP primary.
However, Democrat Andrew Cuomo continues to have twice the support of either Lazio or Paladino.
Cuomo maintains leads of more than 30 percentage points against Lazio and Paladino in both head-to-head and three-way match-ups. The Siena poll shows voters think he will be more effective than either of the Republicans on seven key issues that affect New Yorkers.
Still, Siena says Paladino has closed the gap against Lazio to 13 points among Republicans.
