DEWITT -- New Process Gear plans to lay off more than 100 workers this fall.

Earlier this week, the company notified the New York State Department of Labor that it plans lay off 107 workers by November 15.

This comes ahead of the planned closure of the New Process Gear plant in 2011, and is part of a previously announced 'wind down'.

Back in March, union workers rejected the latest contract proposal from the company aimed at keeping the factory open. Magna International, the Canadian company that owns the plant in East Syracuse, plans to accelerate the plant's shutdown and begin the transfer of operations.

At its peak in 2002, the plant employed 4,000. It now employs around 1,050.
