No Labor Day Rally this year, Stadium instead
Don't look for the traditional Labor Day rally at this year's New York State Fair. Ann Marie Taliercio, with the CNY Labor Federation, AFL-CIO, says there's no boycott, but that labor reps want to go someplace more union-friendly. The change, last October, in the Fair's status, eliminated some long-time union jobs. Taliercio says talks have gone 'as far as we can get at this time' and now there is an action before the Public Employee Relations Board, brought by the SEIU, as well as pending action by the building trades unions.
As an alternative, the Labor Federation is sponsoring 'Union Yes Labor Night' at Sunday's Alliance Bank Stadium game. Starting at 4pm, union members are invited to 'stuff a bus' with school supplies. It is also Chiefs Mystery Night, with autographed baseballs in 'grab bags'. Taliercio says over 10-thousand tickets have been distributed.
