It's been nearly five years now since Hurricane Katrina made landfall, slamming into the Gulf Coast. New Orleans was flooded from broken levees, changing the city forever.

Since 2005, more than 1,400 Central New York volunteers have traveled to New Orleans to help with rebuilding efforts as part of Operation Southern Comfort. 700 of those volunteers have been local high school students and their teachers.

The group plans to take another trip to New Orleans in October. Click here to find out how you can volunteer.
