Are you travelling later this week in preparation for the Labor Day weekend? Then you need to follow the path of Hurricane Earl.

Hurricane Earl, the second hurricane to stir up the Atlantic in less than a week, is battering the Virgin Islands today and could pose a serious threat to eastern seaboard of the United States towards Thursday and Friday. Here is the latest Doppler Radar imagery from St. Maarten

Even if Earl’s path stays offshore, its affects will definitely be felt along the entire length of coastline from Florida to Maine. How can I be so sure? Well, Hurricane Danielle which was nowhere near the east coast of the United States, was able to produce dangerous rip currents this weekend from Florida, to North Carolina, to New Jersey.  These articles show exactly what happened, even when a hurricane is far away.  If you are caught in a rip current, click here for what you should do.  Click here for a great picture of what Hurricane Danielle looked like at its peak

The very latest forecast from the Tropical Prediction Center, shows that Hurricane Earl will be approaching the North Carolina shoreline Thursday night and either staying offshore or hugging the shoreline of New England into Friday and Friday night

If nothing else changes, the weather in central New York will be just fine with just some high thin clouds for Thursday. Either way, expect a hot week coming up.  However, if you travelling anywhere in New England or the Carolina coastline this week to visit friends or family, you will want to stay informed on how this storm behaves.

Have you ever experienced a hurricane? If so, let me know by commenting on this web story at the bottom of this web page.
