SYRACUSE -- A Syracuse church targeted by thieves at least six times in the past week has been broken into again.
The latest target was the annex building across from the Second Olivet Missionary Baptist Church on South West Street. A worker at the annex discovered the break in Tuesday morning.
This is the latest in a series of robberies at the church. Last week thousands of dollars worth of copper pipe and a dozen historic stained glass windows were stolen from the church's office building. The church says the stained glass windows, which were part of the original church and 150 years old, are irreplaceable. In addition to the stained glass windows and copper piping, the thieves also ripped out the building's heating system.
A church trustee says in the latest break in thieves used a brick to break a ground floor window of the annex building. Once inside they made off with electronic equipment, food and hygiene products.
In addition to breaking into the church annex and office building, vandals tried unsuccessfully to get into the church itself.
Second Olivet is the second church in the area to be broken into this month.
