CORTLANDVILLE -- A Cortland County man has been arrested after police say he stole thousands of dollars in cash and goods from the store where he works.

According to the Cortland County Sheriff's Department, deputies were notified by management of the AutoZone on Route 281 in the Town of Cortlandville that they suspected someone was stealing from their business. Police say that after an investigation was conducted, they arrested 21-year-old Daniel S. Farris II of Tompkins Street in Cortland on charges of third degree grand larceny and first degree falsifying business records.

Farris, an employee of that AutoZone store, is accused of trying to hide the theft of more than $21,000 in merchandise and cash over the past three months by using false documents.

Farris was arraigned in the Town of Cortlandville Court on Wednesday and released. He is scheduled to reappear in the same court on September 20.
