Attorney General promises to continue crackdown if elected governor
GEDDES -- Democrat Andrew Cuomo joins the list of politicians touring the State Fair, and the governor candidate promises to continue the work he's started as attorney general.
Cuomo was asked about his just-launched criminal investigation into former fair director Peter Cappucilli's spending. He says that allegations will be checked, but that just because there's an investigation does not confirm that there's wrongdoing. Cuomo says dysfunction is rampant in NY government, and he's concerned about the attitude that it's been around so long, that nothing can stop it.
He told me that if he's lucky enough to be elected governor, he will not tolerate 'incompetence in Albany or possible patronage and cronyism at the State Fair, we should be outraged and should have zero tolerance for waste, fraud, abuse or dysfunction.'
They're calling it the 'perfect storm' with major concerts and celebrities bringing in big numbers---but they'll have to go some, to beat the all-time record for attendance on a fair Wednesday: 112,706 set back in 1972, when Sonny and Cher played the Fair.
