CHITTENANGO FALLS STATE PARK -- For some people, Labor Day means barbecuing in the backyard with family and friends. For others -- Labor Day means one last trip to state park.
And that was especially true at Chittenango Falls State Park today, where a pretty sizeable crowd turned out. This after the state fiscal crisis almost closed 55 state parks, including Chittenango Falls, earlier this summer. People say they're glad to see it open because it's a great place to visit with family and friends.
"People need this oasis away from their daily lives," said Ann Berlew.
Others agreed.
"I think this place is a treasure and everyone should come and see it," said Judeth Laurange, "Especially in the fall...it's beautiful here."
"To think of all the years, and what made the Falls, and the history, and the geography...it's beautiful, I love it," said Marsha Dionne.
And while the beauty of the Falls is enough to draw large crowds, some people say Old Man Winter lurking around the corner was enough to bring them out today.
"I just want to get outside as much as I can with all this nice weather and not have to worry about ice and snow," said Sandy Hocking.
And for others, going to the Falls is a way to get their children out of the house before school starts this week.
"They should be out looking at stuff like this," said Nicki Skovich,"Not at home watching TV or behind a computer or phone. This is something your family could do."
