FULTON -- An Oswego County man was arrested over the weekend after police say crashed a stolen vehicle.
The Oswego County Sheriff’s Office tells CNY Central that on Saturday afternoon, deputies arrested 22-year-old Martin A. Banack of County Route 57 in North Fulton after they say he was involved in a one-car accident with an allegedly stolen vehicle. Police say Banack was reportedly driving a 1996 Ford that had previously been reported to the Fulton Police Department as stolen when he lost control of it on County Route 8, through a stop sign and intersection, and into a ditch. The vehicle then rolled over a fence and into a field. Police say Banack left the scene after the crash, and they found him on the side of the road near the intersection of Lyboldt and Guernsey roads.
Police say the vehicle was reportedly stolen while parked outside of a City of Fulton party. They did not say if Banack is a suspect in the alleged theft.
Banack has been charged with felony criminal possession of stolen property, aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, failure to obey a traffic device, speed not reasonable and prudent, and leaving the scene of a property accident. He was arraigned in the Town of Scriba Court and remanded to the Oswego County Correctional Facility in lieu of $1,000 cash bail or $2,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in Town of Granby Court on September 13 to answer the charges.
