SOLVAY -- There's a push underway to keep your children safe as they head back to school. Solvay police recently issued 69 tickets against drivers for violations in school zones.
Last week, police set up a "School Zone Traffic Detail" outside Solvay Elementary School. The speed limit through the school zone is 15 miles per hour and drivers must not only stop at the stop sign, but also yield to a stopped school bus with its red flashing lights on.
In the end, dozens of drivers in violation of any of those laws were ticketed. Solvay police will continue to monitor school zones throughout the school year.
Remember, passing a stopped school bus with its flashing lights is 5 points on your license and a fine. You can also face a hefty fine if you're caught speeding through a school zone. Click here for more information from the DMV.
