Autumnal skies are changeable
September skies seized many eyes yesterday as fast paced weather changes produced brilliant pictures. Click on the slideshow to see all of the picturesque photos shot by our weather watchers. A cold front produced thunderstorms with small hail yesterday afternoon from Auburn to Throop and from Owego to Delhi. As these showers were ending, the sunshine came out. Because the sun was shining at a precise angle while it was raining, many rainbows were created. This morning, patchy clouds tickled the horizon and produced a lovely beginning to the day when the sun rose around 6:45 this morning. With occasional lake effect rain showers in the forecast, more variable skies will be likely at times between Tuesday and Wednesday morning. That will create more opportunities for dazzling skies. With lake effect instability increasing later tonight into Wednesday morning and ambient wind speeds lowering a bit tonight, there is even an outside chance for a waterspout to develop over Lake Ontario. While this is not a high probability, it is not out of the question. So, lake shore photographers and boaters should be on alert for this.
