ALBANY (AP) -- State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli says New York is not out of the woods yet with its budget.
With the state's fiscal year almost half over, DiNapoli says New York closed last month with a positive General Fund balance. But DiNapoli notes that billions in payments were rescheduled for later this month, including more than $3 billion in education aid. Things could get worse if the state fails to bring in enough revenue in the second half of this month.
DiNapoli says that while there are some positive signs, there is still a tremendous amount of risk because of the economy and the state's financial plan. If things slow down, DiNapoli says the state could face a budget gap this year.
