Syracuse Police say a driver led them on a short chase overnight, after making an illegal U-turn in the 100 block of Columbus Avenue.
When police tried to stop the vehicle, they say the driver sped off. The chase ended just minutes later when he drove into a dead end. Police are identifying the driver as 41-year-old Gregory Giocondo of Skaneateles. According to police, Giocondo tried to turn his car around in the dead end, and then intentionally drove into the front of a patrol car. He then tried to run away, but police caught up to him.
Giocondo is now charged with attempted aggravated assault on a police officer and driving while intoxicated, (both felonies), unlawfully fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle in the third degree, resisting arrest, (both misdemeanors), and multiple other vehicle and traffic law violations. He is expected to be arraigned today in Syracuse City Court.
