UTICA -- An early-morning fire forced 80 to 100 people out of their apartments this morning in Utica. The flames broke out around 6:30am at the apartment complex on Genesee Street.

According to our affiliate WKTV-TV in Utica, the massive fire broke out in the basement of the building near the elevator shaft, traveling to the top floors of the building where most of the damage occurred.

Fire investigators have been on the scene all day and are still trying to figure out how it started.

There's no word yet on when this apartment complex will open back up.
