If you have ever been to any of the Finger Lakes wineries, you have probably enjoy tasting some of what our local vineyards have produced and enjoyed some of the scenery along the way. However, did you realize that it you had just experienced something that could be considered world’s best? The readers of Arthur Frommer’s Budget Travel magazine rated the Finger Lakes region of New York state “the most beautiful wine region in the world!” If you go to this site, and scroll through the polling, you will be able to see that the Finger Lakes beat out Napa Valley and Sonoma, California, Tuscany in Italy, the Loire Valley in France, and the Bordeaux-Burgundy are of the Rhone Valley. That’s pretty impressive!
I believe the scenery across the Finger Lakes region is highlight during the next 6 weeks as the leaves change color across our area. In fact, it is already beginning to occur. Make sure to check back at www.CNYcentral.com for the weekly Fall Foliage update.
While you might enjoy other wines that central New York’s climate cannot produce, the Finger Lakes region still produces a wealth of other grape varieties that may surprise you. This includes dry, crisp early harvest whites to full-bodied dry reds to sweet and fruity blush wines. In addition, there are ice wines, wines made from pears, peaches, apricots, honey, strawberries, apples, cranberries, and raspberries.
So, if you want something to do this weekend that is close by, budget friendly, beautiful, and tasty, look no further than our Finger Lakes for great wine, food and scenery. For more on the Finger Lakes wines, click here.
