What car you drive may change the chances it gets stolen, but here are ways to protect your car, no matter what it is.
The National Insurance Crime Bureau says the '94 Honda Accord was the most stolen car in 2009. The '95 Honda Civic came in second. The '91 Toyota Camry, the '97 Ford F-150, and the '04 Dodge Ram pickup round out the top five.
There have been 195 car thefts in Syracuse this year. Police say these crimes are not premeditated. Instead, officers say they are crimes of opportunity. To protect your car, don't create an opportunity for thieves. Make sure to keep it locked, and don't leave valuables in plain sight.
If your car does get stolen, notify police right away. Syracuse Police say about 90% of the cars that are reported stolen are found somewhere in the city.
