SYRACUSE -- The proposed sewer law in Onondaga County has put many homeowners up in arms. It's all in an effort to limit the amount of storm water in the county sewer system.
County Executive Joanie Mahoney wants to do more though, pitching her "Save the Rain" campaign today at the Metropolitan Syracuse Waste Water Treatment Plant in Syracuse. She says the goal is to save 250-million gallons of rain water a year so the sewer system does not overflow.
"We're known as a community that does a great job recycling, and it's not because Onondaga County is a good recycler, it's because each individual bought into the recycling program," she said, "I want to do the same with managing storm water."
Mahoney says there are a number of things you can do to help out. For instance, using a rain barrel to collect water would cut down on the amount of water in the sewer system. You could then use all that water to wash your car.
