CAZENOVIA -- Good news for pumpkin lovers. Central New York Pumpkin Farmers are expecting a bumper crop this season.
Matthew Critz of Critz Farm's in Cazenovia says the weather this summer was perfect for pumpkin growing. " We would have heat and than more rain and than heat and just like the apple crop in Central New York, the pumpkin crop is excellent this year," he says.
Critz says production is up 25 percent this year and the pumpkins are on average 10-15 pounds heavier as well.
Other parts of the country that grow pumpkins were not so fortunate weather wise this summer, as a result their production is down. That is more good news for Central New York pumpkin farmers like Critz who has been getting orders for pumpkins from across the country. " We have had a ton of wholesale orders that have come in," he says.
Pumpkin pie lovers can also relax, thanks to this years bumper crop, the year long shortage of canned pumpkin pie filler is officially over. Critz says this years pumpkins have a high sugar content so pumpkin pie lovers should be in for a treat. " Oh yes, good pie. It will be excellent pie this year," he says.
