Andrew Cuomo says he has a plan to grow the economy in New York state.
The democratic candidate for governor made a stop in Salina at BITZER Scroll late Tuesday afternoon. After touring the plant, he outlined his 7-point plan to grow the economy. Part of his plan includes creating regional councils that would review local development plans. Cuomo says there is no "Upstate, NY" but rather different regions like the Finger Lakes and North Country.
"The plans that work focus on a region, they bring government and the private sector together," Cuomo said. "They are normally driven by a partnership with a higher education facility. Government gets out of the way in terms on regulation."
Cuomo also wants to cut state spending and what he calls "cleaning up government". He touted his experience as the housing and urban development secretary during the Clinton administration and his current role as state attorney general.
"I've shown time and time again that I have the guts and the know how to actually clean up Albany," Cuomo said. "I've done a lot as attorney general and I can do even more as governor."
Carl Paladino is the republican candidate in the race. The Paladino campaign calls the plan "empty promises."
How does Cuomo feel about Paladino?
"Do I believe he has extreme views? Yes. Do I believe he has an extreme platform? Yes," Cuomo said.
