Andrew Cuomo and Carl Paladino
ALBANY (AP) -- A new poll of likely voters shows Republican Carl Paladino gained on Democrat Andrew Cuomo in the race to be New York's next governor after a Conservative candidate dropped out.
The Marist College poll released Thursday shows Paladino is within 15 points of Cuomo. That's compared to a 19-point margin a week ago, when the Marist poll included Rick Lazio. He has since dropped his Conservative bid.
Although a narrower margin, Paladino only picked up 5 points of Lazio's 8 points in the poll a week ago. Eight percent were undecided.
Cuomo gets just 53 percent of support. Marist's Lee Miringoff says that will be a concern for Cuomo.
The poll surveyed 591 likely voters Monday through Wednesday with a margin of error of plus or minus 4 points.
