SYRACUSE -- Onondaga County is launching a new website to help make it easier for residents to get flu shots.
The new website - www.onflu.net - allows county residents to register online, 24 hours a day. The website also includes information on upcoming flu shot clinics.
Kathy Mogul with the Health Department says getting a flu shot will be even easier this year since the new flu vaccines include protection from both the H1N1 flu and seasonal flu in one vaccine. "Last year you had to get the regular seasonal flu shot and than the H1N1. This year it's all combined so it's just one shot so that makes it easier for people," she says.
The first of 14 flu shot clinics was held at the Solvay-Geddes Community Center on Tuesday. County Executive Joanie Mahoney was one of many receiving a shot. Mahoney says the more people who get flu shots this year, the better off everyone will be.
"Last year we saw thousands and thousands of people because of the H1N1 scare, and really because of the response and so many people being vaccinated it didn't turn into what people had feared it would," she said.
The flu clinics will run through November 23. You can schedule an appointment by calling the Health Department at (315) 435-5752 or visit www.onflu.net.
