SYRACUSE -- A man who, police say, shot and killed a man because of the way he looked at him will spend the next 40 years to life in prison.

A jury convicted Ikeem Mitchell, 19, of second degree murder. He was sentenced Thursday in Onondaga County Court. Mitchell was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison for the murder charge and 15 years for a weapons conviction. The sentences will run consecutively.

Charles Carter Jr., 22, was shot several times on South Townsend Street last March. Police say Mitchell told them he didn't like the way Carter looked at him, so he shot him at point blank range. Carter later died at the hospital.
