MARCY -- State Police in Marcy and local authorities are investigating the discovery of apparent human remains.
They were found 11 a.m. Saturday by volunteer searchers based out of Hancock, New York.
Troopers say the group was looking for Laura Pickard, a Whitesboro woman who's been missing since March of 2009. She was 44 at the time.
Now investigators say they are working to identifty the remains.
"The first thing we need to detirmine is that it's Laura," says New York State Police Captain Mark Lincoln. "That may take a bit through DNA or dental work. We're certinaly very concerned about the circumstances of her death. Should the autopsy come up with any information that her death was other than natural, we'll definitely launch on that part of the investigation."
Police say the remains were found in the area where Pickard went missing.
The investigation is ongoing.
