Most caregivers are women, also raising a family

Cayuga County alone estimates it has 2,000 residents with some stage of Alzheimer's or other forms of dementia, and the care of those residents falls mostly to family and friends.  Corinne Ryan, who coordinates caregiver support groups for Cayuga County's Office for the Aging, says it's stressfull as the loved one degenerates, and caregivers struggle to balance family and other responsibility.  A workshop is set for Saturday, November 6 to present information on long term care planning, and the resources available for caregivers, both for themselves and the patient.  The workshop, at the Holiday Inn Auburn, is free, but
signup is requested.  It's open to residents of Cayuga and neighboring counties.
