Parole officers check in on sex offenders on Halloween
Halloween is always a busy night for parole officers as they make sure sex offenders are complying with the law.
There are special restrictions for registered sex offenders on Halloween, including staying indoors from 3 P.M. until 6 A.M. the following morning.
They also can't have any visible lights on in their house, any type of Halloween decorations, or answer the door for anyone but parole officers.
Parole officers say the night went smoothly and most sex offenders are compliant.
If a sex offender violates a rule they could be taken into custody.
Parole officer Anthony Lucenti was one of the officers on patrol tonight.
"I think it's very important for community safety, not only to make sure the parolees are complying with what they need to do but to provide that added extra security to the people that are out there trick or treating tonight," Lucenti says.
Parole officers checked in on roughly 600 sex offenders tonight in the area.
