Northside's Pompei spaghetti is an election tradition

SYRACUSE -- Among the many election day suppers, the spaghetti dinner at Our Lady of Pompei, on Syracuse's north side, is more than food - it's a 61-year-old tradition.

Lucy Paris, who's chaired the event for several years, says it's a neutral place for politicians of all parties to gather after campaigning is done.  And it's more than politicians:  this year they expect to feed 2,500, with 6,000 meatballs made in advance. The sauce, pasta, salad and desserts are all served on long red checkerboard tables.

The scramble for a parking place is part of the scene. There were even limos from Cazenovia lined up at mid-afternoon.

There's also takeout available, but then you'd miss the wine, the live music and the 'una famiglia' (one family) feeling in the basement cafeteria.
