SYRACUSE -- This week’s "My School" takes us to Westhill High School, where the school is getting pretty used to celebrating championship teams.
In the fall of 2009, the Warriors won a Section III football championship, the ensuing winter the school’s boys basketball team won a New York State title, and in the spring the baseball team won a New York State Title for the second year in a row.
Some athletes, like the hosts of this week’s My School segment; Nathan Nigolian and Kevin McAvoy, have three state championship rings on their fingers. They’re seniors now, and know that basketball and baseball season is looming, as is the chance to fill up an entire hand with beautiful state championship rings.
All the athletes and coaches we talk to credit the success to a department-wide mindset in athletics, they are determined to win and determined to do so the right way - with respect and discipline.
