NEW YORK (AP) -- Authorities say they briefly inspected a suspicious package at New York City's John F. Kennedy International Airport but it turned out to be nothing dangerous.

New York Police Department spokesman Paul Browne says the package contained a cell phone and paperwork.

U.S. law enforcement has been on alert following last week's unsuccessful plot to mail bombs from Yemen inside Chicago-bound packages on cargo planes. Those bombs had cell phones attached.

The FBI says it investigated the New York package Wednesday night "out of an abundance of caution."

The New York police bomb squad was sent to the airport to inspect the package.

The Queens airport is one of the busiest in the nation. It served nearly 46 million people in the last 12 months.
