State police say the death of a resident at a state licensed facility was an accident.
Alexis Javier Cirino-Rodriguez, 20, died on October 13th at the William George Agency in Dryden. It's a facility for young people.
Investigators say Cirino-Rodriguez had physically assaulted a staff member on the 13th. He was restrained on the floor by other staffers. He continued to struggle, and eventually became unresponsive. Staff members called for an ambulance, and started CPR. Cirino Rodriguez was pronounced dead at Cortland Regional Medical Center.
An autopsy showed he died from probably mechanical asphyxiation caused by chest and neck compression during a struggle.
The death was ruled accidental.
The Tompkins County District Attorney says there is no basis for criminal charges. The criminal investigation has been closed.
