HAMILTON -- The long-running Madison-Bouckville Outdoor Antique Show will be staying in its original location.
The 90 acre property was recently sold, and the new owners had said they planned to farm the land. However The Results Group, a marketing firm from Syracuse, has reached a deal with the new owners to lease the site to keep the show going.
The antique show has attracted tens of thousands of vendors and shoppers every August since the 1970s.
Here is more information on the lease from The Results Group:
During an organizational meeting of the Madison Bouckville Antique Dealers Association on Wednesday evening it was announced that The Results Group, a Syracuse, NY based event marketing firm, has signed a multi-year agreement to lease the site of the former Madison Bouckville Antique Show.
Tom Tarry, President of The Results Group said "we are delighted to be a part of such a first class event. I am originally from Madison County, having been born in Oneida, New York, and I feel very lucky to have this opportunity. The residents of Madison County owe a debt of gratitude to Ed and Tori Carhart, the new owners of the show site. I am convinced, though they would never admit it, that there were other, more financially rewarding options for this property but they chose to use the land to further the development of the weeklong antique event. We must also tip our hat to Cindy and Jock Hengst, the founders of the Madison Bouckville Antique Show, for their tireless commitment to creating and nurturing this very important event. We wish them well in their well deserved future endeavors."
Jim Walters, Executive Director of Madison County Tourism said "We are very excited to learn that the Results Group will be promoting an antique festival as part of the overall Madison Bouckville Antique Week in August 2011 on the original Outdoor Antique Show fields. The annual antique week has an economic impact on our community of well over $1.5 million. It accounts for over $360,000 in hotel sales in Madison County during that week, and fills our restaurants, not to mention the boutique stores in places such as Hamilton and Cazenovia along route 20. In fact the show has a regional impact selling hotel rooms from Utica to Syracuse and Rome to Norwich. The Results Group's involvement ensures that Antique Week will continue to provide the best outdoor antiquing experience in all of New York State and will continue to help drive our local economy. We are looking forward to working with them and all the show promoters to grow the festival in the coming years."
The Results Group is a Syracuse, NY based event marketing firm producing events including Empire Brewfest, the Taste of Rochester, the Syracuse Golf Show, the Long Island Golf Show and many others.
Original Story from November 5:
The end has come to the largest part of a summertime antiquing tradition in Central New York that drew shoppers and vendors from across the northeast for nearly 40 years. Madison-Bouckville Management has announced the sale of the 90 acre property that was the base of the massive Madison-Bouckville antique show for more than a generation.
The acreage is nestled among the hills just north of Hamilton, New York along Route 20. Its pastoral setting set the ideal August tone for vendors to sell antiques and collectibles and community groups to raise funds through refreshment sales.
That property will now be transferred to White Eagle Farms, LLC. which plans to utilize it for farming. Jock Hengst, the founder of the Madison-Bouckville show, will continue to produce the Salt City Fall and Winter Antique Shows at the New York State Fairgrounds.
Jim Walter, the Executive Director of Madison County Tourism, says his agency will be working with owners of other showfields in the area to keep antique shows going. Walter says, "It's cliche, but the show will go on. The 2011 Antique Show is still going on. We're going to put together the best experience possible for these people coming here to shop for antiques.
