NYS FAIRGROUNDS -- Much like the food selection at the Great New York State Fair -- Harvest Fest seems to have everything you can imagine.
And all the food is local -- from the maple syrup to the cheese. Buying local not only stimulates the local economy, but helps local families stay in business.
"There are local farms out there that are producing delicious products, healthful products for them and their family," said Kathy Okoniewski of Meadowood Farms in Cazenovia.
And the impact is enormous in the Empire State.
"Agriculture plays a significant role in the economy of upstate New York and throughout the state of New York.", said Dan O'Hara, New York State Department of Agriculture, "This is an opportunity to showcase all of the wonderful agriculture products we have right here in the state of New York."
And while local farmers and food producers will tell you buying local is great for their pockets, it's also a way to keep family traditions alive.
"I'd also like to make it possible that young people would continue the tradition something that we've learned from hundreds of years ago and see it continue for several hundred years too," said local maple producer Daniel Weed.
Harvest Fest continues Sunday from noon until 5 pm. Tickets at the door cost $25.
