GENESEO (AP) -- State police have charged a western New York couple with endangering the welfare of a child after the couple's two-year-old child was found wandering in the middle of road, wearing only a diaper in 40-degree weather.

Troopers say a motorist driving through Geneseo in Livingston County last Saturday spotted a little girl walking down the middle of the road. The driver stopped and picked up the toddler, who directed the motorist to her nearby residence.

Once there, troopers say the motorist saw a man inside the home throw a laundry basket at a five-year-old child and then swear at the child.

Police say the man -- 26-year-old Brian Sanders -- is the father of both kids.

The motorist called police. When troopers arrived, he allegedly became combative.

Sanders has been charged with child endangerment and disorderly conduct.

His wife -- 27-year-old Amber Sanders -- has also been charged with endangering the welfare of her two-year-old child. Both children remain in her custody.
