SYRACUSE -- National Grid is entering into a new partnership with Verizon. The two companies announced that no jobs would leave Central New York and 20 positions or more would be added by Verizon.
National Grid is combining six separate networks into one bigger more efficient network. Operations will be run from the Niagara Mohawk building in Syracuse. Right now that office is undergoing an internal/external multi-million dollar renovation. The company plans on spending $27 million to modernize its networks and telecommunications infrastructure.
The energy company has been reviewing its global telecommunications network. Earlier this year unions were worried about losing jobs at National Grid.
Senator Charles Schumer joined union leaders for a rally Monday in Syracuse in an effort to help protect jobs here in Central New York.
