CORTLAND -- Cortland police are investigating an alleged hazing incident involving at the Delta Kappa Beta fraternity at SUNY Cortland. Now, 8 students are facing charges.
Police tell us a 19-year-old man told them he was the victim of hazing last month. They later got a search warrant for the fraternity at 18 Reynolds Avenue in Cortland. Delta Kappa Beta is currently banned and not recognized by the University.
Cortland city police, State police, Cortland County Sheriff's deputies and Cortland State University police executed the search warrant on October 26th. Investigators say they seized evidence that there was hazing going on in the fraternity. Police also say they found anabolic steroids and amphetamines inside.
Police later arrested 8 students on hazing charges.
Sean Sullivan, 22, a SUNY Cortland student is charged with hazing, unlawfully dealing with a child, conspiracy and criminal possession of a controlled substance. Christopher Porta, 22, a Tompkins Cortland Community College student is charged with hazing, conspiracy and criminal possession of a controlled substance. Salvatore Merenda, 22, a SUNY Cortland student is charged with hazing, conspiracy and criminal possession of a controlled substance. Randolph Herrera, 22, a SUNY Cortland student is charged with hazing, conspiracy and criminal possession of a controlled substance. Richard Molfese, 22, a Tompkins Cortland Community College students is charged with hazing, conspiracy and criminal possession of a controlled substance. Gerard Fasano, 22, a SUNY Cortland student is charged with hazing and conspiracy. Clinton Blake, 22, a Tompkins Cortland Community College student is charged with hazing, conspiracy and unlawfully dealing with a child. Evan Russell, 20, a SUNY Cortland student is charged with hazing and conspiracy.
Investigators say numerous unidentified pills were confiscated during the search warrant at the fraternity. The pill will be sent to the New York State Police Crime Lab to determine what they are. More charges may be pending.
