Thanksgiving 'present' to Syracuse needy
A Syracuse church is taking over the Oncenter next Saturday, to distribute 1,000 Thanksgiving turkeys.
Pastor Danny Thornton, from River of Life Family Church, says it's the second year that they'll use the Oncenter. The giveaway, which began several years ago with 15 turkeys, has grown beyond his Solid Rock Ministries.
Last year, he says, people began lining up at 6am for the first come-first served giveaway. There are no income requirements for getting a turkey, though Thornton hopes the honor system will work, allowing the truly needy to have a holiday meal.
