LITTLE FALLS, N.Y. (AP) -- A Herkimer County man is charged with strangulation under a new domestic violence law that makes it a felony to choke somebody.
Robert L. Daley Jr. of Little Falls was arrested early Saturday, two days after the new state law took effect. Troopers charged him with second-degree assault and second-degree strangulation, both violent felonies.
State police say Daley's live-in girlfriend told police from her hospital bed that he punched, bit and choked her. She suffered broken facial bones that will require reconstructive surgery.
Daley was arraigned in Little Falls Town Court and sent to the Herkimer County jail on $30,000 bail or $60,000 bond. Police didn't know if he had a lawyer.
