Rescue Mission sees big increase in needy
It is National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness week and Syracuse's Rescue Mission has several special events.
Paul LaDolce, with the Rescue Mission, says the number of people coming for meals is way up over last year's records, and there are also more demands on its van and other services for the needy. The economy is partly to blame, says LaDolce, but most of their clients are mentally impaired or addicted and in need of both housing and food services.
Several companies are volunteering staffers to help with food service at the Rescue Mission this coming week, and
Byrne Dairy is coordinating a coat and sweater dropoff at its stores, Monday - Friday (donors get a milk discount).
In addition, the Rescue Mission has an open house on Wednesday, with half hour tours being offered 8-10:30am or Noon - 3:30pm.
