WATERLOO -- A high-speed chase this weekend ended with a Waterloo teenager facing a number of charges.
Andrew Kappesser, 18, of 1717 Burgess Road is charged with driving drunk along with several other offenses.
The trouble started Friday night in the Town of Fayette in Seneca County. Someone called 911 to report a driver speeding and passing other cars on double solid lines on West River Road. Deputies later found the car on Stark Street in Waterloo.
Authorities say Kappesser was driving recklessly and made a U-turn at a high rate of speed, flying into the front yard of a home on Route 96. Deputies tried to stop the car, but investigators say Kappesser kept going, driving down Route 96 and onto Powderly Road, crossing onto Gassner Road and Burgess Road. That's where, deputies say, Kappesser turned his headlights off and kept driving at a high rate of speed.
He allegedly then lost control around a curve, flying off the roadway, flipping over and catching fire. The car was quickly extinguished by the Waterloo Fire Department.
Kappesser suffered a back injury and was later flown to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester. He's now charged with Driving While Intoxicated, Reckless Driving, Unlawful Fleeing a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation, speeding and several traffic violations. He's scheduled to appear in Waterloo Town Court on December 7th.
